Behind the Sound

In my own words, “that standard of enjoyable bliss” — that's the standard I strive to reach.

Audio is one of the few blissful things we get to enjoy in life. Whether it's an orchestra performance, a recorded album that has the potential to change how you experience the world, or a voice that cuts through silence at exactly the right moment.

Sound delivers a sensation when done right, touches something nothing else can reach, nothing else speaks. A great audio/music experience is a mirror to the full spectrum explorable by humans — all thoughts, all emotions, all visions. And it evolves with us, through us, by us.

I remember the first time I walked into a music room. I was young. Everything was magnificent — a piano on the wall like a piece of art, ledger lines flowing across the surface like waves, a frame drum made of animal skin, a tambourine that looked differently than anything I'd seen. I was loud everywhere else. In that room, I went completely silent. My music teacher noticed and hinted “the quietest”. They found it funny — the loudest kid, suddenly still. That room told me something without saying a word: sound deserves reverence.

Years later, the infamous Pop Life album hit, and I understood something else — sound could be built. Produced. Sculpted from nothing into something that moves thousands of people at once. A friend showed me Fruity Loops. I didn't understand the interface, didn't know the difference between a sample and a plugin. The tutorials barely existed, and to be honest, didn't interest me anyway. I wanted to explore aimlessly for hours at a time. I twisted knobs and listened to what they did. I learned ADSR, oscillators, filters, automation — all by ear, all by accident, all by obsession. That mode of exploration never left.

As the obsession moved towards a career, I learned from every source available — music theory, history, art schools, production, sound design, Foley, mixing, songwriting, mastering — basically anything audio. Sound is not the only language I've been learning. I draw, paint, and write. I trade and love business. I believe attention and communication hold a great regard of reverence on their own, because how you talk and read someone is as important as what you're saying. These things aren't separate from the music. They're all the same impulse — because music is the mirror of it all. And with us keeps evolving.
